Economics: more than numbers

Economics is about more than numbers—it's about finding the story behind those numbers and understanding how people and groups make choices about using the resources available to them. Economics is a way of thinking and a collection of powerful quantitative and analytic tools that help you understand the human dimension and impact of the decisions we make every day.

What is the real world telling us? Let's look beyond the theory.

—Kees van Kooten, Professor of Economics and Canada Research Chair in Environmental Studies and Climate

Our students and faculty are making an impact every day—using these tools to examine essential issues such as: poverty, climate change, marketplace strategies, environmental regulations, housing markets, energy polices, financial crises, immigration, labour markets, health care, and much more. Our approach to the study of economics is diverse—we have faculty exploring topics such as doping in sports, ticket sales and resale markets, and the intergenerational impacts of residential schools.

What are you interested in understanding? How do you want to make an impact?
