Prospective faculty, sessionals, & adjuncts
Prospective faculty
Join us at one of Canada’s leading research universities.
Our department is recognized for its strengths in both research and teaching. Areas of faculty research include cultural anthropology, visual anthropology, archaeology and biological anthropology. We endeavour to forge creative connections between anthropology’s traditional subfields with our integrative research themes.
All faculty members have active research programs and publish regularly in academic journals and with leading university presses. They have made important contributions locally, regionally and internationally.
We have an active colloquium series, hosting speakers from across Canada and internationally, as well as local scholars and community members.
Sessional lecturers
UVic Department of Anthropology sessional instructor applications
Sessionals from previous years need to renew their interest with updated information.
To apply and be considered for teaching in the next academic year, please submit your expression of interest via our Survey Monkey - due by the end of October for the following academic year.
Use the PDF of the timetable blocks to help your planning. Undergraduate courses must be scheduled according to these blocks with more flexible options available after 4:30 pm. Please do not propose to teach Mondays and Thursdays 11:30 - 12:50 (C block) because we will continue to schedule department meetings and colloquium at that time.
Please ensure to upload a recent CV, as well as a short course description if you are proposing a new course.
We consider PhD students for teaching positions. Students will be required to have advanced to candidacy to be considered, although exceptions are sometimes made based on previous teaching experience.
Sessional lecturers are covered by a collective agreement between CUPE Local 4163 and UVic.
