Consent & Care Collective

The Consent & Care Collective (CCC) is a student and survivor-led initiative, offering student leadership, harm reduction, and consent and relationship education opportunities to the UVic campus community. With student programs currently in development, our team of student and professional staff adopts anti-oppressive, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed approaches to our violence prevention and relational wellness work. We center our program on peer-to-peer engagement and multi-directional learning, recognizing the expansive knowledge, experience, and capacity for care that exists within every member of our community. Through outreach, events, education, and peer connection, the CCC strives to create a compassionate, caring and connected campus for UVic students.

Consent Education on Campus
It is everyone’s responsibility to learn about and help prevent sexualized and gender-based violence on our campus and in our community. There are several sexualized violence prevention and consent-based workshops geared towards students that are currently offered at UVic.
Sexualized Violence Prevention (SVP) Foundations series with the Sexualized Violence Resource Office: The three-part workshop series is for students who want to take an active role in making UVic a more inclusive, respectful and consensual place. It is especially important and useful for those who are new to UVic, who have not taken sexualized violence prevention (SVP) training in the past and/or those who want to learn more about UVic’s work to prevent sexualized violence.
Understanding Consent Culture with the Anti Violence Project: This workshop is intended to provide folks with information, skills and opportunity to understand and practice consent. Through activities and discussion, facilitators and participants will bust myths about sexualized violence and gender, explore the concept of rape culture and learn about consent (what it is, why it’s required, and how to practice it).
Men’s Circle with the Anti Violence Project: The Men’s Circle at UVic hosts a weekly drop in men’s circle seeking to help men and masculine identifying folks improve their relationship with themself, their peers, romantic interests and their community. The circle meets every Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at UVic in the SUB basement room B028. The circle is open to all men and masculine-identifying people, students and community members alike.
Support on Campus
The Anti Violence Project (AVP) offers free peer-based support services for anyone who has experienced violence and anyone who has caused harm and specializes in gender-based and sexualized violence. Sessions are with our trained staff and are completely non-judgemental, confidential, and focused on your needs. They can provide emotional support, information on services on/off campus, and refer you to further resources.
Drop-in support: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Building, B024

The Sexualized Violence Resource Office (SVRO) at the Equity and Human Rights Office provides support and response options under the Sexualized Violence Prevention & Response and Discrimination & Harassment policies. SVRO receives disclosures, offers referrals and safety planning, facilitates voluntary processes, and receives reports. They support all UVic students, staff and faculty impacted by sexualized violence—whether directly, indirectly or as someone offering support.
