Substance use

Substance use
Health Services can provide assistance with substance use issues.

University life is a time when students may experiment with alcohol and other substances. Young adults may not recognize the risks; drinking to excess (such as drinking a lot in one sitting/binge drinking) or using substances (with unknown content or not prescribed to you). To reduce risks, we encourage safe and moderate use of alcohol, and avoiding substance misuse.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you think you have issues with alcohol or substances?
  • Are your academics or relationships affected?
  • Are other people expressing concerns?
  • Do you have difficulty with control?
  • Do you put yourself at risk?

UHS practitioners are open and willing to discuss substance use concerns, support those in recovery and share resources to assist you or your friends.

Ask about the NA (Narcotics Anonymous) and AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings held near campus.
