Position: Knowledge Translation and Administrative Assistant (KTAA)

Role Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and creative individual to join Dr. Kelli Stajduhar’s team at the University of Victoria. This grant-funded position is ideal for someone who enjoys both coordination and communication, and who is energized by sharing research in accessible and engaging ways. In this role, you will help bring research to life and strengthen connections between the program and the communities it serves.
Reporting to Dr. Kelli Stajduhar, Canada Research Chair (Tier 1), the KTAA plays a key role in delivering knowledge translation and supporting public engagement activities. The position focuses on sharing research through social media, newsletters, and ongoing engagement with our community of practice, helping connect findings with academic, community, and policy audiences. There are opportunities to grow into research-related activities over time.
This is a mid-level role well suited to someone with strong foundational skills, curiosity, and a genuine interest in connecting research with people. Team Overview
The Canada Research Chair in Palliative Approaches to Care in Aging and Community Health research team is based at the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health on Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) territory. Led by Dr. Kelli Stajduhar, the team brings together researchers, trainees, and community partners to improve equitable access to high-quality palliative care for individuals with life-limiting illness, their caregivers, and communities. You will work alongside the existing research team and training/support will be provided.
Research priorities include formal and informal caregiving, equity-oriented palliative care for populations experiencing health and social inequities, and strengthening home- and community-based approaches to care. Grounded in principles of social justice and community engagement, the program generates knowledge to inform policy and support meaningful systems change.
Key Responsibilities
Knowledge Translation and Communications (Primary Focus)
• Develop and distribute newsletters for academic/practice and community audiences (MailChimp)
• Coordinate and support the Equity & Palliative Care Community of Practice
• Create, manage, and schedule social media/blog/website content aligned with research priorities and events
• Design promotional materials and digital graphics for public lectures, film screenings, panels, and community events (Canva)
• Support YouTube content management, uploading and formatting media files such as recorded lectures and panels
• Prepare presentations and visual materials to support knowledge sharing (PowerPoint, Canva)
Research Support (Secondary Focus)
• Provide logistical support for grant applications, reports, and manuscript submissions
• Support research dissemination by helping to prepare summaries, briefs, and accessible materials for multiple audiences
• Opportunity to take on additional research assistant responsibilities over time
Required Qualifications
Educational Background
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Communications, Public Health, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Nursing, or related discipline) plus relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
• Familiarity with academic research environments is an asset
Professional Experience
• Experience creating and managing communications content across platforms (e.g., social media, newsletters, blogs, or websites) for professional or community-based audiences
• Experience translating complex information into clear, accessible, and engaging content
• Experience organizing and coordinating activities, events, or initiatives, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and PowerPoint
• Experience using Canva or similar graphic design software
• Experience updating websites using a content management system (WordPress)
• Experience hosting and troubleshooting videoconferencing platforms
• Familiarity with YouTube, (Meta) Instagram, and LinkedIn
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Familiarity with university content management systems (e.g., Cascade) is an asset

Work Environment
Office Setting
The position is based out of the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health at the University of Victoria. Hybrid working conditions may be negotiable.
Collaborative Research Environment
The role involves ongoing interactions with academic researchers, community organizations, health and housing providers, policy partners, and undergraduate and graduate students.
