The Medieval Studies Program is proud to support students as of their second year with three types of scholarship. Eligibility varies, a passion for Medieval Studies is the constant criterion. Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards (JCURA)

About JCURA

The Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards (JCURA) were designed to provide support for exceptional undergraduate students who might otherwise not be able to obtain a direct research experience. Participants are awarded a $1500 scholarship upon successful completion of a research project.

The JCURA poster presentations are held in early March of each year.

John Tucker Friends of Medieval Studies Scholarship Fund

About the John Tucker Scholarship

The John Tucker Friends of Medieval Studies Scholarship Fund was established in the 1997-1998 academic year by generous patrons of the Medieval Studies Program in honour of Dr. John Tucker, English Professor at the University of Victoria since 1979 and one of the founders of the Medieval Studies Program. 

One or more scholarships are awarded to outstanding students entering Year 4 in the Medieval Studies program.  Preference is given to a student majoring in Medieval Studies. Part-time students are eligible for this scholarship.

How to apply

John Tucker Scholarships are awarded to 3rd and 4th year Medieval Studies Major and Honours students on the basis of academic performance. Inquiries about the scholarship should be directed to the Medieval Studies office.

The Medieval Studies Faculty Scholarship

About the Faculty Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by faculty members who have taught in the program or who have been directors of the program.

One or more scholarships are awarded to outstanding students entering Year 4 in the Medieval Studies program.  Preference is given to a student majoring in Medieval Studies.  Selection is made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Director of Medieval Studies.

No application is required for consideration for this scholarship; selection is made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Director of Medieval Studies in consultation with the Medieval Studies Programming Committee. Contact the Medieval Studies office for more information.

Lindisfarne Scholarship in Medieval Studies

About the Lindisfarne Scholarship

One scholarship of at least $1000 is to be awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student entering second year, and one or more scholarships of at least $1000 are to be awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students entering third year, in the Medieval Studies Program. Preference will be given to students enrolled in an honours, major or minor degree in the Medieval Studies Program. Nomination of recipients will be made by the Medieval Studies Program Committee.

No application is required for consideration for this scholarship; selection is made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Director of Medieval Studies in consultation with the Medieval Studies Programming Committee.

Pacific Association for Recreating the Middle Ages Bursary (PARMA)

About the PARMA Bursary

The Pacific Association for Recreating the Middle Ages offers one bursary every year to Major and Honours students in medieval studies.
