MEDI 440 topic: Dante's Divine Comedy

Innovative and sometimes radical, Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy continues to surprise modern readers. MEDI 440 will introduce students to this work's complexities, which offer continuities as well as contrasts with our own responses to social, political, and artistic turmoil. The course presents the text in English translation with frequent glances at the original Italian, though no prior knowledge of the latter is required.
