Assisting with department sites

We can help if you

  • need to create, update or maintain a website for a department, program etc.,
  • are considering a website to support a course you're offering.

Departmental websites

For many years, we have been working with departments to build, maintain and update their sites. We have worked out a different arrangement of who does what with each department depending on the interests and skills of the departmental staff.

The university has implemented a content management system for departments called Cascade. We have written sites for departments from scratch and using the Cascade software. We have also ported earlier versions of websites to new versions as technology has evolved. Some of the sites have had special features such as aggregating events feeds from a number of channels produced by the UVic events calendar, scraping information from the UVic calendar for representation within the department site, dynamic listings of courses offered by the department, with information specific to the sections offered by each instructor.

For a listing of department sites we're involved with, click on the Departmental Websites heading on our Current Projects page. If you have any questions about updating or maintaining your departmental website, please contact us.

Course websites

We can help you design a website to support a course you are teaching. Generally, course websites are implemented within the university's content management system for courses (Moodle), but if that environment is inappropriate for your needs, we may be able to build something that will work for you. Please contact us to see what we can do.
