Work study

Working to pay for one’s university studies is a reality for most students. In theatre, sometimes it can be difficult to find the time. Organized through UVic Student Awards and Financial Aid, the work study program creates paid part-time employment opportunities for students who have documented financial need.

The Department of Theatre has a large variety of work study positions, from working in the scenic or costume shop, to assisting professors with research projects, or working in the Phoenix Box Office. Students do not only profit financially from this employment but are able to more easily schedule work hours around courses while they learn other important skills.

Co-op education

In a co-op program, students alternate their university terms with paid co-op terms working in organizations relevant to their area of study. In Theatre, these co-op terms are usually taken in the summer. Students gain valuable work experience and build competencies while funding their education.
