Brief Biography

Marjolayne Auger is a creator, performer, director, choreographer, and educator whose research explores how physical theatre, movement, voice, and emerging technologies can give form to complex human experiences. Through interdisciplinary performance, her work investigates women's embodied experiences, examining questions of identity, trauma, ethics, giftedness, and collective memory.

She holds a Master's degree in Physical Theatre from the Accademia Teatro Dimitri, a Bachelor's degree in Dance from UQÀM, a college degree in drama, communications and journalism from Conservatoire Lassalle. Her artistic journey began in dance before expanding into theatre, choreography, circus arts, and interdisciplinary performance. Her work has been presented in Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Armenia, Türkiye, Mexico, and the United States.

Central to Marjolayne's artistic practice is ensemble creation as a space for embodied storytelling and social inquiry. Her original works trace an evolving investigation into women's lived experiences. Her creation, Saudade, brought together nine women from diverse artistic backgrounds to explore the journey of becoming a woman through theatre, Butoh, Argentine folklore, tango, and contemporary dance, celebrating resilience, transformation, and empowerment. Her Master's creation, Femina, examined the consequences of violence, the mother wound, and the complex roles women play in confronting cycles of violence. The creation was performed in Switzerland, Armenia, and Türkiye. Her subsequent work, Les Échos de Katerina et la danse de la mort, (Montréal Fringe Festival) explored the dilemmas of remaining in or leaving abusive and politically complex situations, questioning the tension between individual agency and collective responsibility. Currently developing La danse des particules, the creation investigates the creative processes and lived experiences of gifted women while integrating digital media and visual dramaturgy into physical theatre and dance.

Her continued professional training includes Viewpoints (Mary Overlie, SITI Company) dramaturgy and Suzuki (SITI Company), Grotowski (Rena Mirecka), Meyerhold biomechanics, Butoh (Jocelyne Montpetit, Diego Piñon), clown, Meisner technique, Estill Voice Training, and Mobile Voice (William Weiss). These diverse methodologies continue to shape both her artistic research and her pedagogy.

Alongside her creative practice, Marjolayne has taught movement, voice, acting, and physical theatre in universities, conservatories, professional companies, and community settings in Canada, Armenia, Switzerland, and Türkiye. She is committed to creating collaborative, inclusive, and psychologically safe learning environments where students develop embodied awareness, creative autonomy, and confidence as performers.

As both an artist and educator, Marjolayne views the body as a site of knowledge, imagination, and transformation. Her teaching encourages students to cultivate rigorous physical practice, curiosity, and creative independence while discovering their own artistic voice through embodied performance.
