James Thurmeier

James began his theatre career in high school where he discovered that he could get out of class by setting up for school musicals, and dances. Since then, he hasn’t looked back. He went on to attend the University of Winnipeg, his home town graduating with a BA Honours in theatre production and stage management (2016). 

James is now a theatre practitioner specializing in technical direction. He has worked both traditional, and experimental theatre settings. Just as at home in a proscenium theatre as he is in a found theatre space. He has a keen interest in the intersection of art and technology and is at his happiest working on projects that blend old techniques with new technologies. 

Recent credits prior to joining the Uvic Team: Technical Director (Western Canada Theatre), Technical Director/Lighting Director (Alberta Ballet), Production Manager – Everything Has Disappeared (Mammalian Diving Reflex), Technical Director – Red Earth (One Trunk Theatre). 

When not playing in a dark theatre James can be found doing his best not to be found out in the woods.
