Molly Somers

Molly is a designer, scenic painter, and maker with diverse interests and experience across the realms of theatre production. Though currently based in Victoria, B.C. her roots tie her back to her home in the East Coast. She is grateful to have grown in Mi’kma’ki, and to continue to grow in the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen)—known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt (xʷsepsəm) Nations—and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. Her creative endeavors centre collaboration, experimentation, and play as integral motivators.

Molly has worked on productions across educational, professional, and independent theatre and film, and has worn many hats as designer, painter, props builder, stage manager, performer, writer, and director. Her early interest and education in puppetry and object theatre blossomed into what is now a career built upon the physical elements of storytelling and creating immersive and detailed worlds on stage. With a background in Theatre and Film Studies, their work as a visual artist is supported by theatre and performance history, methods, and techniques, while continuing to gather from and build upon the knowledge of current artistic communities.

Molly holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies from Dalhousie University and an MFA in Design & Production from the University of Victoria.
