Dimensions of Professional Practice
The Dimensions of Professional Practice are a set of principles that shape your growth as a teacher, from coursework through practicum and beyond.
Program Guide
At the start of your program, all Teacher Education students will receive a printed Teacher Education Program Guide in English or French. The guide includes important information about developing your professional teaching practice, a month-by-month calendar, worksheets, resources and UVic policies that you'll want to reference during your program.
Brightspace
Brightspace is UVic's central course hub and primary Learning Management System. It's where you'll find your course outlines, assignments, and practicum materials. Check out the Brightspace Student Guide for tips on how to get started.
Education Students' Assocation
The Education Students' Association (EDSA) is a student-run organization that serves undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education through funding for professional development, organizing social activities, providing student representation on faculty committees and sharing resources. Visit the EDSA website or follow @UVicEDSA on Instagram to learn more and get involved.
Resources
UVic offers a wide range of supports for students, including academic advising, career services, mental health resources and financial aid.

Awards & funding
Whether you're just exploring a career in teaching or you've already started your program, there's funding available to support you.
Faculty of Education Awards
The Faculty of Education offers awards, scholarships and bursaries specifically for our students, from travel funding for practicum and conferences to scholarships recognizing academic and community achievement.
Student Awards & Financial Aid (SAFA)
SAFA is UVic's central hub for scholarships, bursaries, loans and work study, open to students across every faculty, including Education. Search their databases to find awards you may qualify for.
After you graduate
Graduation is the formal awarding of your credential by the University of Victoria Senate. You must apply to graduate in order to receive your diploma — it doesn't happen automatically when you finish your coursework. Visit UVic's [graduation page] for timelines, fees, and everything you need to do.
To teach in BC's public and independent school systems, you need a certificate from the Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB). The TEO will send your 'recommend for certification' once your coursework and final practicum report are confirmed. Important: UVic does not send your transcripts, you must order them yourself from every post-secondary institution you've attended.
The Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) determines your salary category, which affects what you'll earn as a teacher. The TEO sends your recommendation for certification to the TQS at the same time as the TRB—but again, you are responsible for ordering your own transcripts from all institutions attended.
Already certified and looking to keep growing? UVic's Continuing Teacher Education program offers professional learning packages in areas like technology, arts, music and personalized learning, many of which count toward a TQS salary upgrade.
