Install the VPN client: Mac

  1. Check if your computer meets the miniumum system requirements:
    • Your computer must be running Mac OS X 10.11, 10.12 or 10.13 
    • If you have previously installed any IPSEC client (Cisco, Shrew or other), uninstall it before installing the AnyConnect client.
  2. Visit https://vpn.uvic.ca.
  3. Enter your NetLink ID and password.

  4. Click Continue to accept the terms of UVic's Acceptable Use policy IM 7200.

  5. Wait for approximately 60 seconds for the Manual Installation screen to appear.

  6. Click on the AnyConnect VPN link to download the VPN software.

  7. Click OK to save the file.
    Click Save
  8. Double click on the disk image you just saved to open it. It will most likely be with your other downloads, such as on your Desktop or Downloads folder.

  9. Double click on vpn.pkg to begin the installation.

  10. Click Continue.

  12. Click Agree.

  13. Click Install.

  14. Enter the password for your Mac administrator account.

  15. Click Close.

  16. Open a new Finder window by clicking on the Finder icon in the dock.

  17. Choose Applications from the left hand side and open the Cisco folder.

  18.  Double click on the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to open the software.

    Note
    : To keep the VPN client in your dock for future use, you can drag the icon to a new location on the left hand side of the dock.
  19. Drag the icon into the dock to make it easier to find
  20. Click on Connect.

    Note: If the field next to Connect is blank, type vpn.uvic.ca
  21. Type your NetlinkID and password. Leave Group as Default. Click OK.

  22. Click Accept to accept the terms of UVic's Acceptable Use policy IM 7200.

  23. Once you have successfully connected, you should see the Cisco AnyConnect icon in your top system bar.

  24. To disconnect, click on the Cisco AnyConnect icon in your top system bar and select Disconnect.
