Cell phones

UVic has an agreement with Rogers to provide iPhones and corporate voice and data plans. The iPhones sold by Rogers are pre-approved by UVic and don't require technical approval during purchasing.

Cell account administrators manage purchasing and administration for cell phones and plans. Some departments have their own account administrators. University Systems administers cell accounts for everyone else.

Roaming fees

Roam Like Home allows you to use your voice and data plan while travelling for a flat daily fee of $14/day (US) or $16/day (international). Not all countries are eligible for Roam Like Home service. Visit travel roaming options (Rogers) to see what options are available in your destination and learn more about roaming services.

You'll automatically be charged roaming fees every day you use your voice and data plan outside of Canada. Contact your account admin to ask about other roaming plans and ways to avoid large roaming fees while travelling.

Administration

Your account administrator can:

  • give you information about billing
  • buy a new iPhone (with a new line or as an upgrade)
  • buy a new voice and data plan for a UVic cell phone you already have
  • port a phone number from another provider
  • return or exchange a phone (with conditions)
  • port a UVic corporate phone number to another account
  • reset your voicemail PIN
  • add an international data roaming package to your phone
  • temporarily suspend your phone service for a reduced monthly fee
  • cancel your contract
  • transfer your phone to another employee or department
  • give you a replacement SIM card

Return your phone to UVic

When you get a new phone, you must return your old phone to UVic or reuse it within your department. You cannot buy your old phone as a personal device.

Before you return an Apple device, you should factory reset it. This will remove your personal data, biometrics, Apple ID, and the cards and accounts in your Wallet app.

If you're returning a non-Apple device, look for instructions from the manufacturer.
