We have well-established and well-known programs in Canadian politics, comparative politics, international relations and political theory. Our faculty engage in a wide variety of scholarly activity, from conference and workshop organization to publications.
Our research focus is closely aligned with the university‘s and the Faculty of Social Sciences’ strategic plans, including globalization, equity and diversity and Indigenization.
Our faculty are also closely connected to interdisciplinary research programs on campus. These include the interdisciplinary Cultural, Social and Political Theory graduate program, the European Politics group, the Centre for Global Studies, the Centre for Indigenous Research and Community Led Engagement and the Centre for Asia Pacific Studies.

The Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria is seeking Sessional Instructors for the 2027-28 academic year comprised of three terms: Summer term – May-August 2027, Fall term – September-December 2027, and Spring term – January-April 2028.
Interested individuals should apply to the Chair, Dr. Feng Xu, Department of Political Science, by e-mail to poliapps@uvic.ca by no later than 4 PM ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2026.
Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of three referees.
The cover letter should indicate which courses the applicant would be prepared to teach and what qualifications the applicant has for teaching these courses. The Department is seeking qualified instructors across the range of fields in the department including, but not limited to: Canadian Politics, International Politics, Comparative Politics, and Political Theory. Please see the UVic academic calendar for course titles and information.
Specific course offerings will depend on department needs and the availability of qualified instructors and are subject to final budgetary approval. Unexpected vacancies may occur at any time. Qualified individuals living (or expecting to live) in the Greater Victoria area are especially encouraged to apply, and to maintain a current statement of interests and qualifications on file with the Chair.
In all appointments, preference will be given to those with a completed or nearly complete PhD in Political Science and a combination of expertise and experience appropriate to the courses concerned.
