The Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria is seeking applications for Sessional Instructors for 2027-28
Appointments within CUPE 4163 (Component 3)
The Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria is seeking Sessional Instructors for the 2027-28 academic year comprised of three terms: Summer term – May-August 2027, Fall term – September-December 2027, and Spring term – January-April 2028.
Interested individuals should apply to the Chair, Dr. Feng Xu, Department of Political Science, by e-mail to poliapps@uvic.ca by no later than 4 PM ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2026. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of three referees.
The cover letter should indicate which courses the applicant would be prepared to teach and what qualifications the applicant has for teaching these courses. The Department is seeking qualified instructors across the range of fields in the department including, but not limited to: Canadian Politics, International Politics, Comparative Politics, and Political Theory. Please see the UVic academic calendar for course titles and information.
Specific course offerings will depend on department needs and the availability of qualified instructors and are subject to final budgetary approval. Unexpected vacancies may occur at any time. Qualified individuals living (or expecting to live) in the Greater Victoria area are especially encouraged to apply, and to maintain a current statement of interests and qualifications on file with the Chair.
In all appointments, preference will be given to those with a completed or nearly complete PhD in Political Science and a combination of expertise and experience appropriate to the courses concerned. We actively encourage applications from members of groups with historical and/or current barriers to equity, including, but not limited to, First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, and all other Indigenous peoples; members of groups that commonly experience discrimination due to race, ancestry, colour, religion and/or spiritual beliefs, or place of origin; persons with visible and/or invisible (physical and/or mental) disabilities; persons who identify as women; and persons of marginalized sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. We recognize that many of these identities intersect and that therefore, equity, diversity and inclusion can be complex. We value the contributions that each person brings, and are committed to ensuring full and equal participation for all in our community.
The University of Victoria reserves the right to fill additional teaching assignments from the pool of applicants for this posting.
