Social Sciences Jubilee Medal 2026: Brett Krasman
June 11, 2026
“I was completely taken aback to learn that I would be receiving this award. I have been fortunate to be in a place in my life where school could be my central focus, and throughout my degree, I have tried to achieve to the best of my ability. Often, I think having a strong orientation toward achievement can diminish your appreciation of your own efforts. We truly are our own worst critics, and it's so easy to cherry-pick memories of moments when we lacked dedication, rather than times when we followed through and did well. I want to be a dedicated and capable mental health professional, and I see this award as a reminder that I am on the right path to becoming one, as well as a point of reflection to draw on when I experience self-doubt about my efforts or dedication. Thank you to the faculty and staff for this award and reminder."
Brett owes his achievements to his family, David, Shannon, and Erica Krasman; Dr. Brianna Turner; his honours supervisor, Dr. Theone Paterson; Laura Höflich; and his late friend, Nicolaas Gelderblom, whose memory has provided strength throughout his academic journey.
