We offer the following groups at different times throughout the year. See the individual group for more information and when it's offered.

Exploring How We Relate

Exploring How We Relate:

Understanding Ourselves in a Relational Context and Practicing New Ways of Relating to Others.

This 6-session group is designed to offer UVic students an opportunity to understand themselves in a relational context and get feedback about how they relate to others. It is a facilitated group wherein participants are welcomed to share their challenges, intentions, and hopes with the group, while also offering mutual support. This group is designed to meet you where you are.

Session content is determined by issues and topics raised each week by group members.

Intro to Self-Compassion

Intro to Self-Compassion

Do you ever think or feel that you are not good enough? Do you feel bad about yourself? Are you especially hard on yourself? Are you your own worst critic?

Participants will be introduced to self-compassion as a way of responding to one's self that is different from self-judgment or self-criticism. We will explore the three components of self-compassion, the benefits of self-compassion, and the differences between self-compassion and self-esteem. Emphasis will be on experiential exercises but this workshop will also include an educational component, group discussion, and some handouts to take home for personal use. Registration is encouraged but drop-in is also available.

Gaining Social Confidence

Gaining Social Confidence

We are social beings and the longing for connection with others is universal, yet the fear of socializing can be a hindrance in making social connections here at UVic.

In nine sessions, we will heighten an awareness of yourself in relationship to self, others and within various situations. We will practice ways of speaking in social situations, sharing and interacting with others.

You will:

  • Gain awareness and learn to manage your anxiety or panic
  • Find your own level of comfort
  • Express your ideas or opinions
  • Meet new people
  • Learn to say no
  • Practice with participants to gain confidence
