Evidence Found of a Rapid Approach to Planetary Formation
The “Bottom Up” approach to planetary formation known as core accretion is not the only way to make a planet. Dr. Cassandra Hall (University of Georgia) and colleagues including Dr. Ruobing Dong and UVic Graduate Student Jessica Speedie have found evidence of a “Top Down” rapid approach to planetary formation through gravitational instability of a protoplanetary disk.
