Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics Awarded to More than 13,000 Researchers from ATLAS, CMS, ALICE and LHCb Experiments at CERN

University of Victoria researchers have earned the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for their key role in the ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. UVic has been a leader in ATLAS since 1992, contributing to major discoveries like the Higgs boson and advancing detector technology and data analysis. The team continues to drive innovation as they prepare for the LHC’s next phase, bolstered by two new Canada Research Chairs in UVic's particle physics team.
