Dr. Nik Zielonka works as a Research Analyst and Grid Modeller in the Sustainable Energy Systems Integration and Transitions Group (SESIT). He is responsible for modeling energy systems and electricity grids under uncertainties to create robust insights and recommendations for the Canadian energy transition. His work contributes specifically to the development and application of advanced modelling tools within the M3 Modelling Platform to inform real-world policy and infrastructure decisions in Canada, like transmission and grid integration across jurisdictions.

Prior to joining the University of Victoria, Nik earned his PhD at the University of Geneva after graduating from ETH Zurich with a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with focus on energy, management, and innovation. He further stayed with the Technical University of Denmark to specialize in data science and energy systems and received the Master Label Certificate of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.

Beyond his research, Nik has a passion for (science) communication that he already pursued in diverse managing, consulting, and creator roles for multiple institutions and public media. Otherwise, Nik enjoys mountain and trail running, as well as other sports and activities in the nature.
