Credentials

BSc in Solid Mechanics (WTIAU, Iran), MSc in Mechanical Engineering – Applied Design (Semnan University, Iran)

Area of expertise

Nanomaterial synthesis, advanced materials characterization, fatigue and fracture mechanics, mechanical behavior of bio-based materials for applications in electrolyzers

M.J. Sharifi completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering in Iran. His Master’s research focused on the high-cycle fatigue behavior of aluminum alloys reinforced with nanoclay, including the study of crack behavior, microstructure of the aluminum matrix, and the effects of different phases within the matrix, as well as heat treatment, SEM analysis, and metallurgy, resulting in multiple publications and two patents.

He is currently pursuing a second M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria (UVic) under the supervision of Professor Samira Gharehkhani and Professor Jason Lee. His current research focuses on the green synthesis of nano-spherical lignin and the development of lignin-based inks for next-generation water electrolyzers.

In his free time, M.J. enjoys spending time with family and friends, rock climbing, hiking, and exploring different parts of the world.
