Dr. Katherine (Kate) Lonergan is a Senior Research Analyst and Postdoctoral Fellow with the Sustainable Energy Systems Integration and Transitions Group (SESIT). Dr. Lonergan's work focuses on delivering a low-carbon energy transition by leveraging energy systems models, empirical data, and people-centred planning principles. Her research is supported by a Canada Impact+ Research Training Award and concentrates on developing evidence-based recommendations to advance the Canadian energy transition, including large-scale electricity grid development.

Dr. Lonergan joins the University of Victoria after time with ETH Zurich and the University of Toronto. Past academic contributions include publishing with Nature Communications, Joule, and Energy Policy, and serving as a reviewer for high-impact publications, research funding agencies, and the International Renewable Energy Agency. She has also served as a blog editor, helping disseminate energy-focused research to a broad public audience. Dr. Lonergan is a former Academic All-Canadian (Volleyball, University of Toronto) and successfully led a project to provide free menstrual products across university campuses (ETH Zurich).

Outside of work, Kate is ideally cross-country skiing or sharing a coffee with friends.
