Ismael completed his PhD in Management at Memorial University in 2024. His doctoral research focused on corporate non-market strategies, environmental sustainability, and the interplay between enterprises and institutional environments.

He is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Victoria, working under the supervision of Dr. Basma Majerbi and Dr. Natalie Slawinski. His research at ACET examines the role of community-based enterprises in energy transitions, with a focus on rural, remote, and Indigenous communities across Canada. His work has been recognized with a number of awards and has appeared in peer-reviewed outlets, including the Journal of International Management (AJG 3).
