Anna is a 2017 graduate of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York with a BSc in Biology. While a student at Le Moyne, she completed a course with a lab component in Iceland, where she witnessed firsthand the effects of climate change on the Icelandic environment, most notably glacial melting. That experience inspired her to find a career path through which she could help solve the global environmental crisis. After graduating college, she worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the Division of Air Resources, where she worked alongside engineers actively combating climate change by regulating emissions. She was fortunate to discover the MASc in Civil Engineering program at UVic, which meets her desire to find practical solutions to environmental issues. Her master’s thesis project aims to design and test safer antimicrobials to treat biofouling on water treatment membranes.
