Implementing innovations in drug checking: A harm reduction pilot in response to illicit drug overdose

Background: To better understand the utility of drug checking instruments, technologies and practices for people who use drugs and others impacted by and responding to the overdose emergency.

Activities for 2018/19 included:

  • Research ethics secured and data collection initiated.
  • The pilot project was successfully implemented in harm reduction settings in Victoria BC providing relevant and timely results on composition of substances checked and harm reduction messaging.
  • Secure drug-checking database and web-based app developed and website launched.
