Impact of alcohol labelling on health outcomes in Canada

Funding body

Health Canada

Background

Alcoholic beverages are currently almost entirely exempted from container labelling requirements. Some have questioned this in exemption, due to the substantial burden of disease caused by alcohol in Canada, and globally. Health Canada has commissioned our team to use epidemiological methods and the International Model of Alcohol Harms and Policies (InterMAHP v3.0) to model the potential health impact of the federal and/or provincial governments implementing five different alcohol labelling scenarios.

Progress to date

Our team has completed the data acquisition, policy analysis and modelling components of this study. A draft report of the findings will be provided to Health Canada at the end of June 2023, with the final report  delivered on July 31st, 2023.
