Dennis Hore is a scientist at the Canadian Institute of for Substance Use Research, and a professor in the Departments of Chemistry and Computer Science. His research focuses on how light-matter interactions can be used to learn about the structure of molecules and the composition of materials. His team in Chemistry uses nonlinear optical spectroscopy to study molecular interactions at solid-liquid interfaces. Since 2016, a collaboration with Prof. Bruce Wallace resulted in the Substance drug checking project, where machine learning approaches are developed to advance the detection of trace components in drug mixtures. A long term goal is to develop tools that automatically adapt to an evolving illicit drug supply, providing timely and accurate information to people who use drugs in communities of all sizes.
