Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are funded by the University of Victoria Foundation.

Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

Coralie L. Lomas Memorial Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation Bursary*

Value: Varies | Number: 1

A bursary is awarded annually to a student who has completed first year and is proceeding toward a B.Ed. degree with a teaching area in Physical Education. Applicants should demonstrate a need for assistance, and show evidence of a particular interest and aptitude in Physical Education plus general proficiency in academic work.

Larry Lee Kinesiology Bursary*

Value: Varies | Number: 1

A bursary is awarded to a School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education student continuing in any year of the BSc program with a major in Kinesiology.

Students must apply to be considered for the entrance scholarships below, which are based on marks and other criteria such as academic achievement and volunteer and community work. All UVic entrance scholarships require a minimum 85% admission average, unless otherwise specified in the terms of reference of the scholarship. Recipients will be approved by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education.

The scholarships below:

  • require an online application via Online tools submitted between February 15 - April 30, unless otherwise stated in the Terms of Awards.
  • are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals, and prizes.

Micqualyn Scholarship

Value: $1,000 | Number: 1

A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student entering or continuing in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education who has demonstrated community volunteer involvement. In addition to the application, students must submit a letter in which they describe their contributions to such volunteer organizations. Students must complete the on-line application and submit their letter to Student Awards and Financial Aid by the required application deadline.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education.

Applications from students are not required for scholarships listed in this section.

School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education Entrance Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student transferring into the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education from a college or university.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Education.

Applications are required for in-course scholarships listed in this section. These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals, and prizes. 

  • Unless stated otherwise, the application must be made through completion of the in-course scholarship application on UVic Online tools.
  • The deadline, unless stated otherwise, is May 31.
  • Some of the following awards may require application through the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education; please review the eligibility criteria and application instructions below for further information.

 

CFUW Victoria Doreen Sutherland Scholarship in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education*

Two or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate women students in the School of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education, with preference given to an Indigenous student for one of the awards. 

Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education within the Faculty of Education.

Peninsula Co-op Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education Award

Value: $1,000 | Number: 1

A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student pursuing a degree in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education who has contributed to their community and/or school in an outstanding way through volunteer or extra-curricular activities. The recipient must be a Peninsula Co-op member or the immediate family of a member. Immediate family of the student includes parents, step-parents, guardians, siblings, grandparents, uncles and aunts. Students and immediate family must have had active membership prior to September 1st of the previous year and must currently be in good standing with Peninsula Co-op.

Shirley Case Memorial Scholarship

Value: $1,000 | Number: 1

An award of $1,000 is given annually to an undergraduate student registered in the Recreation and Health Education Co-operative Education program who has completed at least one work term. Students are eligible for this award if: (1) they did not receive payment for their work term or only received minimal compensation (e.g. accommodation, honorarium and/or travel expenses); (2) they have engaged in a volunteer, unpaid commitment equal to the time of a work term (4 months). Preference will be given to a student who has worked with at risk or under-resourced community members or organizations during their work term.

Application is made through the Recreation and Health Education Co-operative Education Program and must be received by January 31st

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education.

Applications from students are not required for scholarships listed in this section.

Alumni Association Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education.

Fred L. Martens Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the BA Physical Health Education program, School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education, with the highest grade point average.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education on behalf of the Faculty of Education.

Gunner Shaw Memorial Award*

One or more awards are given to undergraduate students in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education who are members of the Vikes Cross Country and Track Team. Preference will be given to students entering second year. Eligible students must meet all U SPORTS eligibility requirements.

Award recipients will be selected on the basis of work ethic, commitment and performance criteria by the Director of Athletics and Recreation in consultation with the Associate Director, Sport.

John and Marilyn Bate Scholarship in Recreation and Health Education*

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding students continuing in the Recreation and Health Education Program in the School of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education.

Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education.

Larry Lee Kinesiology Scholarship*

A scholarship is awarded to a School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education student continuing in any year of the B.Sc. program with a major in Kinesiology.

Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education on behalf of the Faculty of Education.

Lindsay Jennerich Scholarship*

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate women students in the School of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education who are members of a Varsity team or a registered Vikes Recreation sport club. Varsity members must meet all U SPORTS eligibility requirements. Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education within the Faculty of Education.

School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education Scholarship*

Up to three scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students continuing in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education.
