Mentorship Program

Mentorship program

The Mentorship Program is an opportunity for students to explore intercultural connections, make new friends, and receive support as they navigate their social and academic transition to UVic.

Mentors are undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty.  Mentors make arrangements with the student(s) to meet every week throughout the term.

Examples of activities include:

  • Academic: studying together, attending workshops, training, conferences, and symposiums
  • Informal meetups: coffee, meals, walks
  • Community activities: museum tours, and festivals
  • Intercultural engagement: participating in cultural festivals, intercultural training, holiday events (e.g. Thanksgiving, Holi Festival, Lunar New Year), and International Education Week
  • Fitness and sport: hiking, working out together

The Mentorship Program aims to:

  • Contribute to UVic's strategic objectives to foster an integrated and globally mindful campus
  • Offer friendship, guidance, and support for students as they navigate their social and academic life at UVic
  • Invite students to participate in social, intercultural and academic engagements
  • Refer students to UVic support services, resources, information, and opportunities
  • Build connections between international, indigenous and domestic students at UVic

This is a golden opportunity to learn about other cultures and gain motivation, inspiration, and knowledge from one another.
