Welcome to UVic's Indigenous Student Community!

Whether you're embarking on your post-secondary journey for the first time or transferring from another institution, we're thrilled to have you join us. Our goal is to create a supportive, inclusive and nurturing environment where you can thrive academically, culturally and personally.

Indigenous housing

Residence Services offers on-campus housing to eligible Indigenous students who are interested in living on campus in dedicated accommodations. If you’re coming to UVic directly out of high school, you're eligible for a space in residence through the first-year priority lottery. If you're not a current high school student, you can apply for on-campus housing and request a space through our dedicated Indigenous housing. These spaces are limited and successful applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. This accommodation is available for single undergraduate students and for a family with children. Graduate students may apply for on-campus housing.

For more information and residence application deadlines, go to Residence Services.

For questions about the Indigenous housing application process, contact Laurel Ternus or 250-721-6048.

Indigenous Living Learning Community (ILLC)

Conveniently located in the brand new Sŋéqə ʔéʔləŋ (Sngequ House) near the centre of campus, the Indigenous Living Learning Community (ILLC) is housed in “Pod-style” accommodations with 40 private single rooms, shared living and dining spaces, accessible washrooms, and a large, bright communal kitchen full of modern appliances.

Residents have access to academic and cultural supports from Indigenous mentors and student staff on site, in the Indigenous student lounge on the first floor of the building, and at the nearby First Peoples House. Sŋéqə ʔéʔləŋ's central location provides easy access to the rest of campus.

Learn more about the ILLC.

Indigenous Student Lounge (ISL)

Located on the first floor of Sŋéqə ʔéʔləŋ (Sngequ House), the ISL provides drop in space and programming for Indigenous students to help build a strong community.
