Indigenous learning

Staff, faculty, and the HSD family of students—on campus or online—respectfully acknowledge the traditional territory and land of the Coast Salish people on whose traditional lands our university resides..

Acknowledgement and welcome

The Wisdom Keepers of the Coast Salish Peoples who belong to this land teach us to honor and respect one another and raise each other up, so that all can flourish and belong. We are here to offer support to you throughout your university experience, from your first contact with UVic through graduation and beyond. At HSD and UVic, we all belong, and we work together to raise each other up.

"The social work program at UVic is so enlightened. Obviously a lot of hard work has gone on at UVic regarding Indigenous issues. They had the foresight to see the need to have this social work program, unique to Western Canada. They have instructors from all over the country, including other programs that influence social work. There’s a recognition of the value of Indigenous cultures being so varied and unique and diversified, a richness of the program." — Delland (Del) Majore, MSW, Métis
