About HSD

A new plan for these times

In June 2021, we launched a strategic planning process which will be completed by the end of the year. Come January 2022, we will be putting into place our new vision and mission for the next five years, factoring into our planning the impact and lessons we've learned from this global pandemic.

Our vision and mission will build upon our reputation for excellence in teaching, for Indigenous-led and community-based research as well as national and global projects made possible through relationships with many, varied community partners and affiliations. Our funded research portfolio is very attractive to new students wanting to pursue higher learning within our academic community.

HSD has a long history of teaching Indigenous specializations and recruits more Indigenous students and faculty with each passing year. We are also pioneers in distance education and early adopters to online teaching. We currently offer seven undergraduate programs and 18 graduate programs across our seven academic units.

Building on these strengths -- including our ability to adapt quickly in times of great change -- play a key role in how we prepare for the future. You can learn more about our approach, timelines and team members here - HSD Strategic Plan.
