Employee learning

Learning that Shifts U

Employee Learning that shifts perceptions, transforms relationships and aligns contributions.

The Employee Learning Program supports the professional development of all UVic employees by offering free learning sessions year-round. Learning opportunities are primarily linked to seven series and determined by considering the UVic strategic plan, the UVic competency model, employee requests, and facilitator availability. New elective and core learning programs are considered and offered regularly. We are dedicated to welcome diverse perspectives and experiences into our learning programming.

Learning sessions are currently being offered in many formats including: in person, virtually on Brightspace and workshops in 'real time' on Zoom.

Register for courses

Employees may take individual courses on their own or pursue completion of a full learning series comprised of core courses, flexible electives, and reflection opportunities. Series can typically be completed within 1-2 years.

How To Subscribe To A Series

Employees indicate their interest in the series by enrolling in the community of learning via Brightspace. Available courses will be advertised as part of the Employee Learning Calendar and may be registerered for via Learning Central.

Learners may register for individual courses without being part of the community; however, series subscribers will have the advantages of receiving early notification about course availability, access to relevant resources and communications, reflection prompts to assist with completion of the series, opportunities to engage with others, and notifications about additional learning opportunities relevant to series content.

Learners can 'filter by topic' in Learning Central to select a particular learning series. For example, you can filter by 'Conflict Fluency Learning Series' to show some courses that are relevant to the vertical learning series.

Successful Completion Of A Learning Series

Learners may plan and/or summarize series learning through a series of checklists in Brightspace. Successful completion of a series involves articulating a learning goal, participation in the hours of learning outlined in core courses and electives of that Series, followed by a choice of reflective activity. Organizational Development and Learning Services (ODLS) will validate the information and provide learners with a certificate of completion. Learning records will be accessible to learners and their supervisors through Learning Central. Learners may choose to maintain access to the community of learning for ongoing development and networking.
