2nd Annual Janitorial "FUN" Raiser BBQ makes an even Bigger Splash!

Sept 2015

Facilities Management Janitorial Services hosted their second annual BBQ to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, while also raising FUN and recognizing the hard work and accomplishments of staff. Last year the event was held in the name of Helena Miklea (Manager of Janitorial Services).  This year’s event was held in the name of Rosa Castro’s daughter who is faced with cancer in her early thirties.  Rosa is a long-standing Service Worker currently based in the Clearihue building.

The event rose over $2000 which surpasses last year’s total of $1600!  The day was not only filled with delicious food but also included a putting challenge, a balloon pop, the Sumo challenge, and of course, the famous Dunk Tank.  Some notable dunkees included Leigh Andersen, Director of Customer Service and Program Integration, the Janitorial Services leadership team with Lawrence Lu (Acting Manager) starting it off, and also Byron Spiers (President of CUPE 917).  Thanks to these dunkees and several others who rallied to get people to throw and donate.  The main event involved a raffle that included prizes such as a hotel stay, a whale watching trip, a golf package, and more!

Thank you to all the generous donors from within the UVic community and the greater Victoria community.  As well, thanks to all the supporters who volunteered and assisted in making this event another great success!

All proceeds for this event will be donated to the BC Cancer Foundation.
