University Mail Service in the Event of Job Action at Canada Post

Canada Post will resume regular business operations on Tuesday, June 28.  Distribution Services will start collecting off-campus mail that was being held during the disruption from departments the same day.

Canada Post has suspended operations across the country. During this shut down no mail will be received in from Canada Post. Departments are advised to hold all off campus mail in their departments until further notice. Delivery of internal mail will not be affected by this job action.

UVic will continue to receive mail delivery and collection from Canada Post on a daily basis, however, there will be significant delays in delivery.

Picketing has ended in Victoria, with rotating strikes now impacting Calgary and Edmonton, AB.

Regular operations have resumed in Victoria.  Distribution Services will deliver incoming mail received this morning and will collect outgoing Canada Post mail for processing and collection by Canada Post this afternoon.

Rotating strikes commenced last Friday, with job action now impacting Victoria, BC and Moncton, NB.

There will be no incoming Canada Post mail received at UVic while the Victoria area is on strike.  No outgoing Canada Post mail will be collected from departments during the work stoppage.  Once service resumes, mail will be collected and processed as soon as possible.

Although negotations are continuing between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), rotating strikes have commenced with recent job action in Winnipeg, MA.  There is an indication that further job action will take place tonight in Hamilton, ON.

Distribution Services will continue to collect Canada Post mail but there may be delays due to this job action.  Departments are being advised to hold back from mailing at this time,  Although job action is on a rotational basis, should there be a full scale walkout, mail that is in Canada Post's system will remain there for the duration of this job action.  If departments choose to continue to send out off-campus mail, please do so with this understanding.
