We offer:
- Master of Engineering (MEng) – non-thesis option
- Master of Applied Science (MASc) – thesis option
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
We have 3 terms:
- winter session – first term (September to December)
- winter session – second term (January to April)
- summer session – May to August
January entry – apply by October 1
May entry – apply by February 1
September entry – apply by June 1
We accept applications at all times, but many scholarship applications have deadlines at different times of the year.
The visa application process may cause delays if you are an international student. Apply early so you don’t miss your desired entry point.
The Graduate Admissions and Records office will evaluate your application. If it meets UVic’s minimum standards, they will forward the application to our department.
The department distributes applications to faculty members, who review each application. If a faculty member has available time, space and funding, they may consider offering admission.
New graduate students are eligible to register after they have received a conditional or full offer of admission. A provisional offer of admission is not sufficient.

Yes. Learn about teaching and research assistants in the department.
No. We do not require GRE scores. However, you can submit your score if you have one. A high GRE score may improve your chance of acceptance.
Shortly after you’ve applied, you’ll receive your UVic student ID number by email. This will include instructions for checking your status online. You’ll be contacted by email once an admission decision has been made, and you’ll be notified if anything further is required. Make sure to add @uvic.ca to your safe senders list.
