Master of Engineering (MEng)

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently has over 60 MEng students from across the globe.

The Master’s of Engineering (MEng) program best serves students who wish to enhance their knowledge of electrical and computer engineering beyond the undergraduate level but prefer not to undertake thesis based research.

The MEng program consists of a minimum of 12 units of coursework plus the ECE 598 MEng Project of 5 units. In addition to the minimum units of coursework stated, the MEng program requires 1 unit for the ECE 509 Seminar course.

In order to be considered for admission applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Meet the minimum admission requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies;
  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related fields from an academic institution recognized by the University of Victoria;
  • Meet the English language requirements;
  • Have a minimum GPA of 5.0/9.0 (B grade) on UVicʼs scale, or 73-76% range.

Standard tuition fees for the MEng degree

The minimum regular program fee for a master's degree is 5.0 tuition installments. One (1) additional regular tuition installment will be assessed if a student remains registered after having paid 5.0 regular full tuition installments (for a total regular tuition of 6.0).

The MEng program is self-funded students pursuing studies in this field should secure appropriate funding before beginning their program. Students may be eligible for awards or bursaries.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers teaching assistantship opportunities. Positions are posted approximately 10 weeks prior to the effective employment term. Appointment policies and instructions are available under awards & funding.

To receive the co-op designation on their diploma, MEng students must complete two work terms.

Through the co-operative education program (co-op), students may alternate terms in class with paid work terms in positions related to their fields of study.

Graduate students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering may join the co-op program with the permission of their academic supervisor.
