About Hausi

Hausi A. Müller is a Professor of Computer Science in the Faculty of Engineering & Computer Science at the University of Victoria, and an Adjunct Professor at Icesi University in Cali, Colombia. His research spans quantum computing, distributed quantum computing, hybrid quantum-classical algorithms, software engineering, and adaptive and intelligent cyber-physical systems. He served as Associate Dean of Research for the Faculty of Engineering (2009–2019), and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a Professional Engineer registered with APEGBC, and an IEEE Life Member. He holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from ETH Zürich and MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Rice University.

Dr. Müller is a leading figure in quantum computing, having co-founded the IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing & Engineering (QCE)—IEEE Quantum Week—and served as its General Chair multiple times, including QCE23, which received an IEEE iCON award; he is General Chair of QCE26 in Toronto. He received the 2024 IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Leadership Award for his contributions to software engineering and quantum computing. He is currently principal investigator on an NSERC Quantum Consortium Alliance Grant on Distributed Quantum Computing and an NSERC CREATE Grant on Quantum Computing, with a research career also spanning IoT and adaptive systems through past NSERC- and IBM-funded projects. He founded UVic's CEAB-accredited Bachelor of Software Engineering program and teaches courses in Quantum Algorithms and Software Engineering.

Outside of research, Hausi enjoys singing, playing guitar, hiking, e-biking, and skiing.
