UVic in the News daily digest

UVic in the News is a digest of media stories related to UVic. It is distributed by University Communications and Marketing.

The digest is a curated selection of media coverage. It features news about UVic and also includes general news coverage on significant post-secondary trends and higher education issues of interest.

Accessing the news

The digest includes links to online stories, as well as audio and TV clips of broadcast coverage.

The online news links are live at the time of distribution; however, some media outlets may choose to de-activate their links at a later date and some articles are only available with a paid subscription.

All audio and TV clips are protected by copyright and are provided for listening or viewing only, not for further distribution or sharing on social media. Requests for downloads can be made to uvicnews@uvic.ca.

Tips for broadcast clips

The radio and TV broadcasts appear in playback clips of approximately one minute in duration. If a particular clip doesn’t include the portion of the broadcast that you wish to hear or see, you can access other segments of the playback clip by following these instructions:

• You’ll need to use the green and red highlighter tools found in the main screen window in the toolbar just to the left of the camera icon.
• First, select with the green highlighter from the text on the right-hand side of your browser window where you want to begin the broadcast.
• Once selected, click on the red “end” highlighter and drag that red highlighter to wherever you’d like to finish within the broadcast.
• There is a limit of 10 minutes at a time to listen or watch uninterrupted within the Critical Mention platform. But you can extend the highlighted selection, using the highlighter tools, in intervals of 10 minutes to view or listen to the rest of the broadcast.
• Please note the playback clips will expire and won't be accessible 30 days after the date of broadcast.
