UVic in the News digest

UVic in the News is a media digest distributed by University Communications and Marketing (UCAM), in collaboration with Public Affairs and University Relations (PAUR). It highlights selected media coverage related to the University of Victoria.

The digest is curated, not exhaustive. It includes:

• Media coverage that features UVic, its researchers, students, staff, or initiatives

• Broader post-secondary and higher-education stories that provide relevant sector context and may be of interest to the UVic community

Accessing the news

The digest includes links to online articles, as well as audio and television clips from broadcast media.

• Online links are active at the time of distribution. Some outlets may later remove access or place content behind a paywall.

• Broadcast clips are provided for listening or viewing only and are protected by copyright. They may not be downloaded or shared externally, including on social media.

• Broadcast clips are available for a limited time and may expire after the original broadcast date.

How the digest is curated

UVic in the News is produced using Meltwater, a media intelligence and monitoring platform used by University Communications and Marketing.

Media coverage is monitored and reviewed jointly by UCAM and PAUR. For each curation, teams assess a broad range of coverage and curate a selection for inclusion in the digest using editorial judgment to ensure relevance, accuracy, and usefulness for the UVic community.

Not all media coverage is automatically captured by Meltwater. Some stories may not be detected, particularly when:

• UVic is mentioned briefly or is not a primary focus.

• Coverage relates to highly specific topics, research areas, or units.

• The university is referenced without a clear institutional identifier.

Faculty, staff, and campus partners are encouraged to share relevant media coverage that may not be automatically captured.

About coverage details and metrics

Some entries in the digest may include additional context such as estimated reach, sentiment, or social engagement. These indicators are provided by Meltwater and are intended to offer general, directional insight only.

• Metrics may not be available for all sources, particularly radio and television coverage.

• Reach, sentiment, and engagement figures are estimates and should not be interpreted as exact counts.

• Broadcast transcripts are generated through third-party transcription services and may vary in accuracy depending on audio quality and broadcast conditions.
