United Way campaign

United Way supports people in our local community. Give to your community by signing up for payroll donations, making a one-time donation and attending campus events.

Feedback survey

Help us do better. As a campus community, we all work hard to support our community through yearly campaigns full of fundraising events and by individual, and monthly payroll, donations.

But we think we can do better, which means further helping those with less in our community.

Take our anonymous survey and share your views with the UVic United Way committee on the kind of events you want to see, tell us why you donate and help us understand the barriers that may be stopping you from contributing.

The survey will take less than five minutes and will help build a stronger campaign.

UVic 2025-26 campaign

Thanks to your support, we were able to raise $147,160.62 for people in need. By giving a little, you are helping to build healthy, caring and inclusive communities.

Although this year’s campaign has concluded, the needs of our community continue all year round. If you are considering a one-time donation or signing up for payroll donations, please don’t wait until the next campaign begins.

United Way is a nationwide network of local agencies whose primary mission is to raise funds to aid community-based agencies helping those with mental health and addictions, supporting families in need and isolated seniors. In 2024-25, United Way supported 73,379 individuals on Southern Vancouver Island. That means a United Way initiative or funded program helped almost 1 in 5 people in our region.

Donate to the United Way

A little goes a long way. By giving even a small amount, you can create positive change in our community.

Over the course of a year, your payroll donation of:

  • $6 (twice monthly) supplies one person with healthy and culturally appropriate food for five days
  • $15 (twice monthly) provides a warm, home-cooked meal and a monthly wellness check-in for a senior living alone
  • $20 (twice monthly) equips 10 youths with professional attire for interviews
  • $60 (twice monthly) covers one month's rent for a former youth in care attending post-secondary

Make a payroll donation!

As a UVic employee, you can make regular donations through our payroll program. This is a bi-weekly donation that comes out of your paycheque automatically. Payroll donations help provide United Way with stability, and form the backbone of their funding.

Already a payroll donor?

If you donated by payroll deduction last year, your donation will continue. You will receive an email confirming your deductions with information about how to change or cancel your payroll deduction.

Make a one-time donation

Giving a one-time donation is a great way to give back to those in need. UVic employees, students and retirees can make one-time donations via credit card anytime.

Attend a campus event

From coffee days to plasma car races, show your support and join us at fun events throughout the year.

Focus areas

Child and youth
Every child deserves the chance to achieve their potential. United Way helps kids and youth succeed by supporting local and provincial programs and initiatives in early childhood development, out-of-school time activities, and youth leadership.
Seniors
Through intentional and ongoing community collaboration and engagement United Way ensures their programs remain relevant and meaningful — reducing seniors’ isolation and enhancing the quality of life for older British Columbians, their families, friends, caregivers and allies.
Emergency response
United Way lends a hand in times of crisis by utilizing their extensive network of volunteers, partners, donors and supporting agencies, to organize strategic and rapid responses for the substantial challenges that affect our communities.
Food security

One in five British Columbians struggle to access nutritious food. United way helps ensure everyone can get the nourishing, healthy and culturally preferable food they need through food security initiatives, which is vital to the overall health and well-being of our communities.

Communities
By supporting people at neighbourhood and community levels to help them move from poverty to possibility — while working with businesses to create a more just society — United Way is strengthening vital connections so communities are stronger, safer, and more inclusive and resilient.
