Provisioning of email accounts for employees

All UVic employees are eligible for a Microsoft Exchange email account. Users can access their email account from any computer with an Internet connection by visiting mail.uvic.ca. Please note that although any web browser will display emails and calendaring information, Internet Explorer is the recommended browser.

All new UVic employees automatically receive an Exchange account when they register for a NetLink ID. Any existing faculty or staff member may request an Exchange account and can be migrated by the Desktop Support Services person for his/her department (or the Computer Help Desk if no desktop support person exists).

*A former employee's email account will be disabled 365 days after his/her employment terminates. After 340 days, our Identity Management system will automatically notify the former employee that his/her Exchange account will be disabled in 25 days. Another automated email notification will be sent 15 days later notifying the former employee that his/her Exchange mailbox will be disabled in 10 days. If a person returns to work within this one-year period, Exchange access will be fully re-enabled.

Employees that apply for formal retirement from UVic will be manually granted Exchange privileges and can keep their Exchange account indefinitely. Retiree roles are granted through HR.

Former employees retain their NetLink IDs indefinitely and will have access to My page.
