The Academic Recording Service is centrally funded to record lectures for approved face-to-face courses held in general use academic classrooms booked centrally by Academic Room Bookings. The service consists of a videographer who will, with your consent, video record your class and then make this recording available to you for posting online.
The intention is to provide a resource for your face to face students if they are unable to physically attend a class.

Our videographers will be following a safe work plan which we have developed in consultation with OHSE. This plan includes establishing and maintaining a physical distancing bubble for our staff and equipment. 

Academic Recording Service Details

  • A videographer will setup in advance of every class
  • The videographer will attempt to be as non-intrusive as possible
  • The focus of the recording will normally only be on the instructor and only the instructor will be equipped with a microphone for quality audio capture
  • A no filming area will be established in each classroom
  • The unedited digital recording will be uploaded to Kaltura within 48-hours of the class whenever possible; if you have specific requirements regarding desired turnaround time, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate
  • Questions from audience will need to be repeated by the instructor to capture them on the recording if desired

Who can use this service?

  • Faculty, Instructors, and Sessionals delivering lectures in an assigned centrally booked classroom. All others can request our video recording service.

How do I request this service?

  • Instructors will need to provide consent for our Academic Recording Service allowing us to record them
  • Instructors will be responsible for acquiring and managing consent from students if there is a desire to record students as well
  • Unless student consent is confirmed with University Systems, students will not be intentionally recorded
