Honours requirements
Honours students are required to satisfy course requirements for a major in Sociology and Soci 499 (honours thesis seminar, 3.0 units). Overall course requirements include:
- SOCI 100A
- SOCI 100B
- SOCI 210
- SOCI 211
- SOCI 271
- SOCI 309
- SOCI 374
- SOCI 376
- 3 units from a series of new courses numbered SOCI 430A-439*
- SOCI 499
- Plus 7.5 additional units in in Sociology numbered 300 and above (SOSC 300 can be substituted for 1.5 units)
- Complete 1.5 units of: 200-level SOCI
*Note: Students who have completed both SOCI 402 and 412 are not required to take any of the new 400 level courses; and, students with only one of SOCI 402 or 412 can choose one of SOCI 430A-439 to complete the graduation requirements.
Graduation Standing
An Honours degree requires:
1. a minimum grade of B+ in SOCI 499.
2. a minimum GPA of 6.0 in all upper-level courses.
Honours students who do not meet the above requirements, but complete those for a Major in Sociology, may opt to receive a Major degree.
