Space, place, knowledge and power

I am Quw’utsun, and I grew up on Nisga’a and Tsimshian territories. I completed my BA in Anthropology and Indigenous Studies at McGill University in 2019. I am very grateful to be living and working on Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories.

My research interests include Indigenous sovereignty, repatriation, identity; urban/rural migration, travel, space/place-making; and other-than-human/non-human relations. When it comes to all of these topics, I work within Indigenous epistemologies.

My current project exists alongside the Commemorating Ye’yumnuts project (yeyumnuts.ca) in exploring place-based learning curricula within the public school system in the Cowichan Valley. I intend to focus on Ye’yumnuts as a local place with agency as my subject, to prioritize Indigenous students in any forthcoming results, and to precisely and appropriately center Quw’utsun histories and realities.
