Visual anthropology and materiality

I completed my BA at UVic in 2020 and am now an MA student working under the supervision of Dr Andrea Walsh. I’m grateful to be here on the traditional territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples.

During my undergrad I began to explore how social media can be a tool for visual anthropology, as well as a place where communities can be found. My thesis research explores this dynamic further, focusing on tattooing, film, and the visual experiences of nonbinary gender.

As a nonbinary researcher I am drawing on the legacy of feminist anthropology and the growing discipline of transgender research in addition to my visual anthropology studies. I hope that my work can bring further awareness to the diversity of nonbinary experiences.

Apart from my research I am a writer, photographer, and avid reader.
