RPIA ACE Finance Award for BIPOC Students

One award of $5,000 is given to an undergraduate student continuing in third or fourth year in the Department of Economics, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics or the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who self-identifies as Black, Indigenous or a Person of Colour (BIPOC), and has an interest in pursuing a career in the financial industry.

Applicants must provide a personal statement (maximum 500 words) that demonstrates:
1. an intent to pursue a career in the financial services industry by summarizing relevant coursework, extracurricular involvement and industry work experience through co-op placements, internships, etc, and
2. a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by creating inclusive environments free of hate, violence and discrimination. This could be, for example, through volunteer or paid work, social media communications or participating in community events.

Preference is for students with demonstrated financial need. Students with a GPA of 3.0 or above are eligible. Approval of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Department of Economics, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics or the the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Eligibility

In-Course scholarships, awards, medals and prizes are offered to undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 12.0 units for credit, of which 10.5 units are graded using the standard nine point scale, in two of the three terms of study in the previous academic year (May to April). In-course scholarships, awards and prizes are awarded in the subsequent winter session (September to April).

How to apply

Application-required scholarships and awards require students to submit either a paper or online application as well as supporting documentation. In order to apply for scholarships offered online, students must complete the in-course scholarship application, available through Online tools. The online application for students currently attending is open February 15 - April 30. Any supporting documentation required for the online application must be submitted by email to incourse@uvic.ca by April 30. 

How to accept

To accept your scholarship offer:

  1. Have a NetLink ID
  2. Go to www.uvic.ca and sign into your UVic Online tools account using your NetLink ID
  3. Select "Student Services" on the top menu
  4. Select "Awards and financial aid" under "Finances"
  5. Select "View My Student Aid"
  6. Enter the Aid Year and Aid Period
  7. Select "Accept" on the scholarship(s) you have been offered
