Joyce Bewley Undergraduate Award

One or more awards are given to undergraduate students in the School of Social Work who have demonstrated financial need and have demonstrated resilience to overcome personal challenges. Preference is for students who meet one or more of these criteria, in the following order of priority:
1. are mature students (aged 30 and over) or
2. are single parents or have family responsibilities or
3. have indicated interest in a social work career in community activation, mental health, family law or dealing with family violence.

Applicants must submit a personal statement (max 500 words) describing how they have demonstrated resilience to overcome personal challenges.

Approval of the recipients will be made by the Senae Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Social Work.

Eligibility

In-Course scholarships, awards, medals and prizes are offered to undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 12.0 units for credit, of which 10.5 units are graded using the standard nine point scale, in two of the three terms of study in the previous academic year (May to April). In-course scholarships, awards and prizes are awarded in the subsequent winter session (September to April).

How to apply

Application-required scholarships and awards require students to submit either a paper or online application as well as supporting documentation. In order to apply for scholarships offered online, students must complete the in-course scholarship application, available through Online tools. The online application for students currently attending is open February 15 - April 30. Any supporting documentation required for the online application must be submitted by email to incourse@uvic.ca by April 30. 

How to accept

To accept your scholarship offer:

  1. Have a NetLink ID
  2. Go to www.uvic.ca and sign into your UVic Online tools account using your NetLink ID
  3. Select "Student Services" on the top menu
  4. Select "Awards and financial aid" under "Finances"
  5. Select "View My Student Aid"
  6. Enter the Aid Year and Aid Period
  7. Select "Accept" on the scholarship(s) you have been offered
