Qian is currently a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Victoria, working on low-carbon transition in infrastructure sectors with Prof. Chris Kennedy. His main research interests and experiences are greenhouse gas accounting and carbon footprint analysis, and policy-oriented modeling of other environmental pressures (air pollution, water scarcity, natural resource depletion) corresponding to economic activities by using advanced tools in industrial ecology, such as input-output analysis, material flow analysis, and life-cycle assessment.

Qian holds a PhD in Urban Engineering from the University of Tokyo (Japan), where he was awarded as a beneficiary of the Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship (2012-2015). After he obtained his PhD, he worked as a project researcher at the University of Tokyo for two large research projects about environmental stresses in the supply chains and new indicators of resource efficiency for Japan (2015-2018). Previously, he worked as a part-time research intern and consultant in the Climate and Energy Group at China Office of the World Resources Institute (WRI) between 2011 and 2012.

In his spare time, Qian enjoys hiking, playing badminton, chess, and bridge.
